Welcome to Meeksville celebrates the work of Joe Meek, pioneering and influential record producer, a few minutes away from the building where he lived, worked and produced a string of innovative hit records at 304 Holloway Road. Although well known in underground and music circles Joe Meek is a little known figure to many of those who pass his old studio every day, a building that was an experimental hit-factory for seven years and was visited by musicians such as Jimmy Page, David Bowie, Tom Jones and Gene  Vincent. The 50th anniversary on the 4th October 2012 of Telstar, Meek’s most recognisable and commercially successful work, reaching the top of the UK charts affords a one-off opportunity to re-evaluate his importance and celebrate his achievements. Hello from the cult leader...

It's been a while... We've been underground, on the ground and up the trees developing new indulgences in the naaaatuuuralll high persuasions. There have been a few comments as to whether this cult is a humour project and to that I say YES, but that does not mean it is not also deeply sincere and realistic all the same. These are the concepts that policy makers should be making note of because these kinds of ideas usually lead to mass popularity eventually... but just to insure the embracing of idiosyncrasies doesn't drift out of sight, I will continue to try to keep it light while keeping it real. Basically, it's been a rocking summer. The cult made an appearance and some conversions in Portland, Oregon where we put on the very first official Camouflage Party at Rocks Box ; a protest in the form of rocking out in green space. It's not hurting anyone and more people should make the most of nature's offerings-... harness the power and plug it in and don't forget to wear some olive drab... "when you hear someone coming/you stop/ you'll blend in!"

CALLING ALL LOCAL MUSICIANS/HIGH ON LIFE TYPES!

To be a true member of the Cult of the Endorphin means that you ritualistically and routinely pursue natural highs that result only in positive effects.  Even though some drugs could be considered natural, they most often also get you low. When participating in official Cult of the Endorphin activities all members will actively put forth an infectious positive energy and genuine communal spirit. 

The cult ethos will be spread through interventions and organized events/activities.  Already inducted members will help spread the word and canvass for new members through various creative and infiltrative means.  We are on a MISSION!

Part of the mission spreading process involves making scenarios where it is virtually impossible to ignore the positive vibrations and hopefully so seductive that people will get all caught up and not even realize what has overcome them.  One key element in many of the proposed interventions is live music and more specifically, the official Cult of the Endorphin Band.  

The Band must function as the ultimate irresistible upbeat hook-like rebel call, the force behind what makes people do crazy aerobic things with their bodies and makes them want to howl and shout and let go of inhibitions.  The music must reflect the ideology of the mission of the Cult.  It should not be overly didactic or corny as they say.  It should be soulful-energetic-heart pumping and maybe even scarily big sounding.  The Cult band should have its own sound that will be unmistakably the Cult of the Endorphin!

It's the first week of school... The Cult of the Endorphin is being instigated by Mary George, cult leader and high on life enthusiast.  She is introducing the COE at a lunchtime meeting in the Lecture Theatre at Byam Shaw School of Art on Thursday the 9 of October at 1:15 p.m.  It will be an invigorating experience for sure and all who are ready to sign up or just a little curious, are welcome to come along.  There will be many events coming up in the near future, so watch this space for updates!  Headbands and jerseys will also be available soon, if you are the type who likes a uniform...
